Encounters that Change You (God’s Love)

I got some crazy revelations last weekend. Some major mindset shifts.

(I was at this awesome church leadership retreat, in case you’re curious.)

And, I experienced a lot of JOY. Not just normal haha that’s funny let’s retell that story later kind of joy. But happiness so deep and wide and overwhelming it almost hurt. Joy so intense, all I could do was bawl.

Strange, right?

God is funny.

At the bottom of it all, I realized that it’s all about love.

That sounds so simple and I feel like I hear it and repeat it often, yet it hits me afresh. God is Love.

What is God’s love like?

It’s Someone who understands you. With Him, you don’t have to explain. You don’t have to clarify your intentions or justify your emotions. He gets it.

It’s Someone who cares. He sees you, every detail, and He cares about every little part of your story.

It’s Someone who is rooting for you. He believes in you more than you believe in yourself. In fact, He not only understands you, He knows you better than you do. And He enjoys the process of unveiling your true identity to you.

And it’s Someone who enjoys surprising you. He likes making you laugh, He has fun watching you gasp in sudden revelation. He enjoys being with you. He likes you.

On Saturday, God reminded me that I am His little girl.

I’m a little girl holding her father’s hand, riding up on his shoulders, letting him teach me about everything I see. He said, “Don’t ever let anyone make you feel ashamed of the way you are with Me.”

It’s moments like that that define who I am. Those little moments. Every day, I am His. Every day, He is there smiling at me.

Elizabeth holds to simple faith in a complex world. She values the beauty of the everyday and strives for vulnerability with other imperfect humans. She is currently pursuing her MDiv at Fuller Theological Seminary, so when she isn't busy writing academic papers, she is usually out enjoying the LA sunshine. She is constantly learning, laughing, and finding herself in awe of grace.
