Thunderstorm

Wow, thunder just hit so close that I felt my whole house shake! Tonight there are not only flood warnings out, but there was a tornado warning not too long ago! Very unusual for Baltimore, Maryland. The weather is doing crazy things here these days…

I love this storm, though. There is something distinctly beautiful about a thunderstorm, the pouring rain, the sudden flashes of light, the rough rumbles of thunder. It reminds me of why I stand in awe of God.

The driving rain is intensifying now, I can hear it above the music playing on my computer.

I love the raw power of nature. We have so many fancy gadgets and technologically advanced devices these days, but to me, a rushing waterfall, the rustling of leaves by an invisible breeze, and the unexpected rumble of thunder are much more impressive. In our fast-paced society, things are always changing, how the system works is always changing. But some things stay the same. I guess what I love about thunderstorms is that they are simultaneously predictable and wonderfully wild.

  1. Thunderstorm – “it reminds me why I stand in awe of God”. So true. Revelations 4 describes something very similar. “From the throne came flashes of lightening, rumblings and peals of thunder”. I think we must just get a glimpse of heaven and what it must be like in the presence of the Awesome God when we hear the rumblings and flashes of lightening on earth.
